During your orthodontic treatment in Marietta, Georgia, there are various foods that you can enjoy, but most importantly there are some that you should avoid altogether. Why? Because they can cause damage to both your natural teeth and the components of your braces.
What Not to Eat
If you’re in braces, it’s best to avoid the following foods:
(Some) Bread –Soft bread should be avoided because it can stick to your wires and brackets, making it very hard to get them clean. When food particles get left behind, cavities can develop. If you want to eat bread, then having it toasted is a good option.
Sticky Foods – You should stay away from sticky foods and candies like taffy, caramel, and chewing gum, because they can stick to your braces and cause a bracket to pop off your tooth, requiring an emergency visit to the orthodontic.
Hard Foods – Foods that are really hard, like croutons, peanut brittle, ice, etc., can break your orthodontic hardware. Broken parts mean your braces aren’t working properly, which can lead to having a longer treatment time.
Sugary Foods or Drinks – If not properly cleaned off, sugar can soak on your teeth and erode the enamel, causing tooth decay. So, if you’re not prepared to brush your teeth right after consumption, then it’s best to avoid food and drinks that have a high sugar content.
