Having your teeth straightened usually doesn’t require much work on your part. Once your braces are bonded on, your main job is to keep them clean and it’s even easier if you’re wearing Invisalign trays. But there may be times when traditional braces will require a little more attention. With the holidays coming up, there will be a lot more eating and snacking taking place. If you’re not careful, you can run the risk of breaking a bracket (or two).
Broken Brackets and What To Do
Broken brackets can sometimes seem like a cause for alarm, but they’re really an easy fix. With many people taking time off during the holidays, you might be away from home when it happens or our office may be closed for a day or two. If that’s the case, here are some quick tips to help keep you comfortable over the holidays should you experience a broken orthodontic bracket:
Use Your Wax – Use your orthodontic wax to cover any moving or loose appliances that are making you feel uncomfortable. This will protect your cheek from becoming sore.
Remove It – If the bracket is at the back and it can easily be removed, just take it off until we are able to see you; we will replace it once you come in.
Leave It – If the bracket is still attached to the wire, you are usually safe to leave it in place until your appointment with us.
